Stuart Grimshaw has run banks and consumer finance companies in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States across a four-decade career.
He began at ANZ in 1983 and spent a decade at National Australia Bank, where as Chief Executive of its Great Britain business he ran Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank, together more than 500 branches and some 7,600 people. At Commonwealth Bank of Australia, one of the country's two largest banks, he served as Chief Financial Officer and then as Group Executive for Investment and Insurance Services and for Premium Business Services, before running Caledonia Investments, the Australian investment house managing around two billion dollars for more than 400 investors.
In 2011 he was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive of Bank of Queensland, one of Australia's leading regional banks, with around 250 branches across every state and territory. In his first year the bank posted the first full-year loss by an Australian bank in two decades. He raised new capital, acquired Investec Bank Australia's professional finance and asset finance businesses, and by 2014 had returned the bank to a record profit, its market value more than doubling during his tenure.
He then moved to the United States as Executive Chairman and, from 2015 to 2020, Chief Executive of EZCORP, the Nasdaq-listed consumer finance company with around 1,400 locations across the United States, Mexico and Canada when he joined, and later led humm group, the Australian consumer finance company, as Managing Director and Chief Executive from 2023 to 2025. He has chaired Cash Converters International and Millennium Services Group, and served on the boards of Suncorp and Raiz Invest.
He is Chairman of Licella Holdings and a Non-executive Director of Bionic Vision Technologies and Superhero, and a former President of Hockey Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington and an MBA from the University of Melbourne, and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.
